Overview
Waste Not is a multi-platform project designed in Figma to address food waste and hunger in the U.S., following Apple’s iOS design guidelines. The platform delivers a seamless and accessible user experience across mobile, tablet, and desktop devices, focusing on civic impact.
Project Concept
Each year, the U.S. wastes around 80 billion pounds of food—about 220 pounds per person—with 30–40% of the food supply discarded. A major cause is confusion over expiration labels. Meanwhile, over 50 million Americans, including 12 million children, experience food insecurity.
Waste Not bridges this gap by connecting people with surplus food to those in need, offering a comprehensive solution unlike other platforms focusing on only one aspect.
Goal
Raise awareness about food waste and food insecurity while providing a user-friendly, cross-platform experience that promotes food donations and connects users to local food banks.
Challenges
- Designing a consistent and responsive interface across mobile, tablet, and desktop.
- Ensuring accessibility with clean layouts, legible sans-serif fonts, and minimal color schemes.
Personas
- Low-income individuals or families (earning under $20K/year) facing food insecurity.
- People with surplus food or those who want to donate to food banks.
Design Process
- Built using Figma, starting with mobile (iOS) designs, then expanding to iPad and desktop.
- Followed Apple’s Human Interface Guidelines for consistency.
- Collected user feedback throughout and iterated designs for usability.
- Developed and tested prototypes across all devices.
Competitive Audit
Analyzed food waste, donation, and hunger-relief platforms to identify gaps and improve usability and features on Waste Not.
Design Artifacts
- Flowcharts mapped the user journey to ensure intuitive navigation.
- Created individual screen designs for: iPhone, iPad, and Desktop
- Built a fully interactive prototype, tested across devices to ensure responsiveness and polish.

Prototype walkthrough
Once the screen designs were finalized, I built a full interactive prototype to test functionality across mobile, tablet, and desktop. Through multiple iterations and user testing, I refined the experience to ensure responsiveness, accessibility, and a cohesive look across all platforms.
